Here is a weekly self-check built around one brutal question and a few prompts, anchored in behavior not fantasy.
How to use it
- Ask: “Would I want me as my manager this week?”
- If yes, prove it wasn’t a fluke.
- If sometimes, write down what tipped it either way.
- If no, congratulations, you’ve spotted the problem before your team had to. Name the pattern you’ll change next week.
- Add supporting prompts:
- Did I genuinely listen, or just rehearse my reply?
- Did I give context, or assume everyone was psychic?
- Did I shield the team from chaos, or accidentally pour petrol on it?
- If I worked for me this week, would I feel supported or cornered?
- Write the answer down. Your memory is rosier than reality. If it feels uncomfortable when answering, good. That’s growth.
